February Quarterly Meeting

One hour for business and one hour for advanced training. Kelly Thorvalson, the Conservation Program Manager at the South Carolina Aquarium will be our speaker. Kelly has served as South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue program manager and one of the first employees of the Sea Turtle Hospital at the aquarium.

Kelly is currently working with anecdata.org to educate a new generation of citizen scientists on the impact plastics have on our environment. In support of this effort, the SC Aquarium and anecdata.org have launched an app to that helps track the type and quantity of littler collected during beach clean-ups, river clean-ups, etc. The data is used by the Aquarium to work with legislators at the statehouse to impact policy decisions, and by regional and local authorities and environmental groups to best allocate resources, plan clean-ups, track the types of trash travels from the upstate to the coast, etc.
